Samsung Galaxy S i9000 vs Galaxy 3 i5800 Comparison

Display:-
The Galaxy S comes with a 4 inch Super AMOLED display while the Galaxy 3 comes with a 3.2 inches TFT capacitive touchscreen. The Galaxy Ace’s screen has a 240×400 pixels resolution, but the Galaxy S has a higher resolution of 400×800 and also is made of Gorilla Glass. The Super AMOLED display certainly wins over the TFT display in this section.

Both the phones have two touch sensitive below the display along with a physical button and come with a proximity sensor.

Camera:

Galaxy S has a 5 Megapixel camera in the rear and a VGA secondary camera on the front with which one can make video calls.. It records HD video at 720p but the Samsung Galaxy 3 has only a 3.2Mega pixel camera  and shoots photos at a maximum resolution of 2048×1536. The i5800 records video at 480p at 15 FPS and does not have a secondary camera

Both the phones do not have an LED flash.

Memory:

The Galaxy S has 16GB/32GB of internal memory and a microSD card slot which supports upto 32 Gigabytes of storage, making a total of upto 48GB. Out of the box, it comes with a 8GB memory card but the Galaxy 3 has 130MB of internal memory and a microSD card slot which supports upto 32 Gigabytes of storage. It comes with a a 1GB card inside the box.

Connectivity:

The Galaxy S has three HSDPA bands: 900 / 1900 / 2100 and gives maximum speeds upto 7.2Mbps while the Galaxy 3 has only two HSDPA bands 900 / 2100 . Both the phones support 802.11 b/g/n and are GPS enabled.

Bluetooth 3.0 is available on both phones with DLNA based Wi-fi connectivity only on the Galaxy S i9000.

Both the phone have Stereo FM radio.

Operating System and UI:

Samsung Galaxy S i9000 has a latest version of Gingerbread, 2.3.3 with Samsung’s User Interface, Touchwiz 3 and the Samsung Galaxy 3 comes with 2.1 Eclair and is upgradable to Android 2.2 Froyo in select regions. TouchWiz runs on version v3.0 on both the phones though the Galaxy S has much better improvements throughout the user interface, based on Gingerbread’s overall improvements in design.

Battery and Processor

Both the phones have a 1500mAh battery and the Galaxy S claims to have around 14 hours of talktime and 713 hours of standby time on 2G while the Galaxy 3 has around 15 and a half hours of talktime and 620 hours of standby backup.

The i900 has 512MB of RAM along with a 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor, a PowerVR SGX540 GPU and a Hummingbird chipset while Galaxy 3 has a 667 MHz Samsung processor.

Conclusion

The Galaxy S i900 is indeed one of the bestselling smartphones in the world in terms of number and recent sales show that its successor, the Galaxy SII is also doing really well. However, if you are looking at a lower budget smartphone, there are quite a few options in the low end series. Instead of going for other smartphones in the low end series, the Galaxy 3 is a good deal considering it has a decent 667 Mhz processor and quite a decent camera of around 3.2 Megapixels on it. The Galaxy S is still one of the best competitors in the high end scenario and is worth the money you would be paying.
