Root Samsung Galaxy S2 GT I9100 on Android 2.3.4 XXKH3 Firmware


It was the last time when we saw on how you can update your Samsung Galaxy S2 GT I9100 with the latest version of Gingerbread 2.3.4. So, now in a move to customize or apply the tweaks which you always wanted to, you will have to proceed to root your phone. So, in the due course of this article we will see on how you can easily root your smartest and the slimmest smart phone which is none other than the SAMSUNG Galaxy S2 GT I9100 phone. Before you proceed you will have to ensure that the current version of your firmware on your S2 isXXKH3 2.3.4 Gingerbread version.

Just in case if you want to know on which version of the firmware you are on, then you need to go to the path which is “Applications > Settings >About Phone” where you will see that the version of firmware which is loaded in your phone and should show XXKH3 version of firmware. If any other version is shown then you will have to update your phone to this version before you proceed for the instructions.
Please note that as soon as you apply this rooting process to your phone, the warranty is said to be voided as Galaxy S2 maintains a whole detailed log report wherein the service engineers from SAMSUNG can view the same, but since SAMSUNG as of now hasn’t come with any stringent circular or notices about this that the warranty will be voided once the device is rooted, we can play safe by rooting the device by following the instructions properly. Please note that we take no responsibility if you skip any instructions which are mentioned below as we have ensured that all necessary instructions have been mentioned below so as to facilitate the smoother rooting process.

Pre Requisites to be followed before Rooting:
  • Many times it has been found that after rooting the phone the crucial data gets erased which includes the Contacts, Messages and other data like the APN Settings along with the MMS Settings which are responsible for the internet access and the Multimedia messaging. 
  • Now, once the data is backed up from the above instructions, you will now have to proceed to note down the MMS as well as the APN (Access point Name) Settings which are responsible for sending the Multimedia settings as well as well as for accessing the Internet on your phone. Please note that the APN as well as the MMS settings are located in this path,Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names. APN Settings include all the settings for your 3G as well as for the GPRS.
  • Ensure that the minimum battery backup is more than 90% so as to facilitate proper rooting process and also ensure that the KIES has been updated with the latest version and also close the Antivirus solution till the rooting process is completed.
  • For applying the rooting process, you will be requiring a computer or laptop which comes with a minimum of USB 2.0 slots along with the administration rights privilege. It has been found that many users were having the issues about the Port not getting opened, so this step needs to be followed strictly. So, let’s proceed for the instructions which you can find the same in the next page.
Procedure to Root Samsung Galaxy S2 GT I9100 on XXKH3 Firmware:
  • So, assuming that the above instructions are followed as mentioned above, you now need to download the Rooting Package which contains the Odin flash tool with which we will be flashing the rooting package and also there will be the rooting tar file.

  • After you download this one, you will now have to proceed to unzip the same. Please note that in the process of unzipping, you will be prompted to enter the password. Enter the password as “androidadvices.com” without the inverted comas. As soon as you enter the password, the files will be extracted, prefer extracting the files to the desktop so that you can find them easily.

  • So, now next up you need to turn Off the phone and from the extracted files open the Odin executable file. After this, you will have to turn ON your Galaxy S2 GT I9100 in the download mode. The download mode in the Galaxy S2 can be entered by pressing  down on Volume Down Key + OK button, and holding both simultaneously press the Power Button. You can also refer the below mentioned short reference video if you are unable to enter into the download mode for reference on how to turn ON the download mode.
  • Now, all you need to do is with the help of the USB cable connect the phone to your computer where the Odin is opened on screen. Ensure that KIES and the Antivirus programs are closed. As soon as you connect the phone, you will see that the ID : COM block will turn Yellow as you can see in the below image.

  • Once, you see that yellow block it means that you are ready to select the file for rooting the same. Now, in Odin click on the PDA option and then choose the file named “CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KH3-v4.1-CWM4.tar” which you will find from the extracted files.

  • Please note that apart from this file, don’t put any other files in any other options like in PIT etc. or else the phone will be bricked. Once you have loaded the file, click on the Start button in Odin after which the rooting process will be initiated.

  • In the process of rooting, you are requested not to interrupt the process either by opening any other application in your computer or by removing the USB cable before the completion of the process.
  • So, once the rooting process is done, you will see that the phone will be restarted and then in the Applications you will find the Super User Application along with the CWM application which will confirm that the rooting access was successful. Please note that just in case if you are unable to see these applications then you will have to again start the process of rooting from the start.
  • Just in a very rare case, if the Power goes off and the process gets interrupted then as soon as power resumes, you can again follow the procedure to root from the start and no harm will be done.
