Update Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 with Extra Ordinary ROM v 3.2 - [How To]


Galaxy S ExtraOrdinary LogoFor all those who always wanted to go beyond the Stock ROMs then here comes the need for the Custom ROMs. So, we thought on let’s make flashing or upgrading with the same simpler with the simple to understand instructions which still most of the forums doesn’t come forward as there are enough number of people who wanted to taste their devices with these custom ROMs. So for all Samsung Galaxy users if you are facing issues like force close errors, laggyness of the device and the overall interface then here comes a custom ROM called the Extraordinary ROM for Galaxy S which is not only the best of the lot custom ROMs which are available but also is the ROM which makes device faster than any of the Stock ROMs which is available as of now.

Please note that you will have to strictly follow the instructions as mentioned in the due course of this article or else there will be a high probability that you may end up bricking up the phone. Also keeping in mind about your convenience and safety we will see a series of instructions which are broken into the different sections like pre upgrade instructions, enhancements which come up in this version and then followed by the actual procedure to update with the Extraordinary ROM 3.2 which is basically the Gingerbread 2.3.4 based ROM and is the most stable ROM as of now. Please note that before we proceed we would like to tell you that you will have to root your phone and in the process of rooting the device you will be losing the warranty but not to worry as you can easily revoke the root access at any point of time as by doing so you can reclaim the lost warranty. The simple way to revert back to the stock one is just follow with any of the procedures to update your Galaxy S like the latest one XXJVRXXJVP or even any other ROM so as to revoke the root access.
So let’s proceed for the instructions one by one and just in case if you face any issues then all you need to do is to just follow the instructions from the start so as to facilitate smoother firmware update and the installation of the custom ROM of Extraordinary 3.2 version. Though there is a new 3.3 version which has been launched but it has been found that it’s really a very unstable version.
Please note that this update is only meant for the phone with the model number Samsung Galaxy S GTI9000 and not for any other similar looking models or similar sounding models like Samsung Galaxy S I9000M or Captivate, Mesmerize or even other phones like Vibrant etc. If you still proceed to update the device then you may even end up bricking up your phone or some keys won’t be responding as per the functions which these keys are meant to do.
Note: You will have to reconfigure the APN settings after updating the firmware to access the data services and the services as all the Internet APN settings will be reset. You will have to contact your Service provider to get more info on the APN Settings. Not to forget also configure the MMS Settings. Also, we hold no responsibility if anything goes wrong which is an unlikely event if anything goes wrong. Most of the users forget this step and end up experiencing difficulties in accessing the internet after updating the phone.
Pre Requisites before updating Galaxy S GT I9000 with Extra Ordinary 3.2 ROM:
  • Before proceeding to update, you need to ensure that you have synced all your contacts with your Google Account, allsms, applications, videos and music files which are there in your phone should be taken a backup or else the data will be lost. Anything which is in SD card will not be lost, so you can alternatively move to SD Card. If you are planning to store in internal SD Card then it’s preferred to store the data in computer as a backup as in an unlikely event the data in SD Card may get corrupted.
  • Create a backup of all the Internet APN settings along with the MMS settings so that you can again configure them all after the firmware update as sometimes these settings tend to get erased or wiped off completely after the update.
  • Next up remove the SIM card as well as the external SD cards if any in your phone, just to make sure that in an unlikely event the data in it doesn’t get corrupted,
  • Additionally, ensure that your phone has at least more than 50% of battery power left, this is just an advisory which if followed then you will not experience any difficulties as while updation of the device the battery consumption is at a maximum,
  • Last but not the least ensure that your phone is Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 and not any other phone as if you proceed installing any other phone then there is a high possibility that you will brick your phone after which your phone will become un usable. Just in case if the upgradation gets interrupted in between then you will have to re follow the whole procedure again from the start so that the updation process of 2.3.4 completes successfully.
  • If you have rooted your phone earlier then after the firmware update you will have to again root the device as the phone will be un rooted and the rooting access will be revoked. We will soon come out with an article on how you can root your device.
So, let’s proceed with the instructions on how you can update your phone with the latest version of Gingerbread but before that you will have to go through the list of improvements which this new version has and also followed by the pre requisites with the procedure to update the firmware on your Galaxy S Phone.
Enhancements in Extraordinary ROM 3.2 version:
  • Apart from an all new interface you can enjoy faster and sleeker overall interface which is enough for creating an addiction of using this ROM.
  • The power button now comes with an enhanced set of options, as soon as you press the power key you will see that you will be there will many options like Silent Mode, Data network Mode, Flight Mode, Power Off, Reboot, Recovery and also last but not the least option of Download.
  • This phone gives a solid battery life of over a day but for this you will have to ensure that you charge your battery to 100% before you proceed for updating with this firmware as if you proceed with the lesser battery life then you might get lower battery life and after which you will have to calibrate the battery so as to get better battery life for your device.
  • Apart from the above enhancements you also get Galaxy S2 camera, Different screen lock options, Preloaded Flash 10.3 Player, Battery history app, Titanium backup application and also an all new TW Launcher which is sure to grab your attention.
  • Some of the users are still not happy with the GPS as it doesn’t latch up properly and for all those versions of stock like XXJVP, XXJVQ, XXJVR might just help as minute changes have been done on the GPS front in this Custom ROM of Extra Ordinary 3.2 version.
  • In stock ROM some of the applications were having issues like force close errors which now have been fixed. There was an issue with the cache which too is now sorted out.
  • Also, most importantly you can now enjoy error free downloads after updating with this version as some users were having issues with the slower internet speeds from Android Market Place.
Procedure to install Extra Ordinary v3.2 ROM:
  • So, before we proceed you will have to ensure that you have Updated Galaxy S with XXJVQ 2.3.4 Firmware and have ensured that you have rooted XXJVQ 2.3.4 Firmware.
  • Now, once you do the above two instructions, all you need to do is to just download the Extra Ordinary v3.2 ROM in your phone’s SD Card and not in any of the internal folders. Once you place the same you will have to now ensure that you haven’t renamed any of the file name or else it might not work in your Galaxy S.
  • Once you have placed this firmware zip file of Extra Ordinary ROM you will have to now open the Clock Work Mod option and then you will have to choose the option of apply update.zip.
  • After this select the zip file which you have placed in your phone couple of steps back. Now, once you choose this file you will see that the recovery mode will be started and then the file installation process will be started as soon as after you select the same.
  • That’s it as soon as the ROM is being successfully applied you will see that the device will be rebooted and then the language preferences followed by the Gmail account settings will be prompted to you. Just follow the on screen instructions to proceed and to enjoy the new ROM for your phone.
  • For your added convenience we have also added some of the screen shots on how this all new ROM looks like on your Galaxy S. Please note that apply this procedure  only on Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 and not on any other phone or else there is a high probability that you might just brick your phone.
That’s it you have now successfully installed this ROM, now after going to the home screen, you will now have to proceed to press the power button and need to select the option of “Recovery” after which the device will enter into the recovery mode. In the recovery mode you will have to clear / wipe all the cache and need to clear the partition as this will clear off all the cache files. Please note that in any manner don’t proceed to clear the “DALVIK CACHE” as if you do so then it will wipe off all the crucial files which you may want to play with.
